Different Not Less

Supporting your autistic family member

Are you the parent of an autistic child or adult? Would you like to gain additional understanding of their needs and support your own?

Various topics will be covered across the course, which may help you to further understand the needs of the autistic people in your life. Each session will be rooted in neurodiversity affirming practices and run by individuals with lived experience. The course will also allow you to meet other parent's with caring responsibilities alongside developing skills to manage your won well-being.

The session will take place in a quiet woodland environment at The Cart Shed, with an opportunity to gain experience of woodland craft skills, such as willow and rush weaving and whittling. Both parents are eligible to attend, This course is open to parents responsible for a person with an autism diagnosis or self-identifying. These sessions are fully funded which means you do not have to pay anything, although we are always welcome of any donations.

We aim to run 2 sessions of Different Not Less a year, so if you are interested in the course please complete a referral form and we will let you know of the next course dates planned. The courses typically run over 6, usually on a Thursday from 10am-2pm. Numbers are limited to 8-10 participants per course and participants need to be able to commit to attending the whole course.

'I have become more self-aware because I am able to understand myself better and no longer feel like I am wrong, broken or have something wrong with me that needs “fixing”. I am actually normal for a neurodivergent individual and I am not crazy or losing my mind, I do think and function differently to other people but I am not alone in my experiences.'
